Liberals commit $50,000 to new scoreboard

Grassroots local sporting clubs are the lifeblood of communities and the Liberal Nationals are committed to supporting these clubs by investing in their facilities.

If elected, a Liberal Nationals government will deliver $50,000 towards a new electronic scoreboard at Jack Barker Oval in Cheltenham, the home ground of the Cheltenham Football Netball Club.

Established in 1891, the Cheltenham Football Netball Club is home to senior football teams and netball teams and has a membership of more than 500.

This new scoreboard will benefit not only the Cheltenham Football Netball Club but also other local football clubs and teams that access the Jack Barker Oval and its facilities.

Unlike Daniel Andrews who has decided to give a massive $225 million of taxpayers’ money to the AFL to upgrade Etihad Stadium, the Liberal Nationals are getting behind local sporting clubs who need our support.

Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Sport, Danny O’Brien:

“Brad Rowswell is an effective advocate for local grass roots sporting clubs in his community and has advocated strongly for this new electronic scoreboard in Cheltenham.

“Brad Rowswell invited me to visit the Oval last month and I witnessed firsthand the enthusiasm of this club and its members.

“The Liberal Nationals won’t hand over millions of dollars to the AFL to spend on Etihad Stadium – instead – we will prioritise funding for suburban and country sports clubs.”

Comments attributable to Liberal Candidate for Sandringham, Brad Rowswell:

“As a local who has grown up and spent my whole life in this area, I understand first-hand the importance of local sporting clubs and the need to invest in them.

“Through greater exposure for the club’s sponsors, this commitment will ensure the viability of the Cheltenham Football Netball Club for many years to come.”

Comments attributable to Cheltenham Football Netball Club President, John Graham:

“At a time when Bayside Council is making it more difficult for sporting clubs to display sponsor advertising, clubs like ours need to find new and innovative ways to ensure a steady stream of sponsorship.

“I’m grateful to Brad Rowswell for making this commitment and look forward to working with him in the future.”
