Statement regarding 2020 SFNL season
Dear Cheltenham Football Netball Club community,
Last night, following the recent rise in COVID-19 numbers and changes to spectator attendance restrictions and change room capacity, the Southern Football Netball League board made the decision to cancel the Men’s Senior, Reserve and Thirds football competitions for 2020.
As a club, we have fully supported the league’s efforts to leave no stone unturned in attempting to stage a season in these unprecedented times, but accept that it is no longer viable, or safe.
We are extremely proud of the way our coaches and players have continued to work together towards a potential start date – both on and off the the training track – and the way in which they, and our wonderful group of volunteers, have adapted to the strict new protocols set out by AFL Victoria regarding community health and safety. We thank you so much for your efforts and willingness to provide the best – and safest – possible environment for all at CFNC.
At this stage, the league is committed to exploring ways to conduct a season for under 19s football and all Netball grades – in strict compliance with the AFL Victoria Return to Play Protocols, Netball Victoria guidelines and State Government COVID-19 restrictions. We will endeavour to keep everyone updated as this process is undertaken.
In the meantime, we will continue to work behind the scenes to ensure that we enter 2021 in the best position possible.
Please support our wonderful partners in any way that you can. Without their amazing support, our club cannot survive – and thrive – into the future.
Finally, please keep safe and healthy and we look forward to seeing everyone back at Jack Barker Oval in 2021 for our 131st 130th season.
Go Rosellas.
